If you are looking for a hosting provider, you are bound to participate in SiteGround. It is one of the most powerful and influential independent hosts, and has long been setting the standard in WordPress-based services.
The provider has been rated as one of the top services on HostingTribunal for years and we have had several SiteGround reviews covering most of the provider’s hosting solutions.
That said, in 2020 the host implemented a massive improvement in its services. This included significant infrastructure changes, restructured plans, and many new features.
But is it still among the top hosting providers in 2021?
To answer that question the latest iteration of our SiteGrade hosting review is here.
Let’s jump straight into the details.

What is a siteground?

Siteground was founded in Bulgaria, but quickly became a global hosting provider. With a presence in 10 countries across four continents, it operates in over 2 million domains.
SiteGround hosting is supported by WordPress.org and I know it for its large investment in the online community. And I haven’t even mentioned its R&D activities – while most hosts run on industry-standard software, a large part of the setup of SiteGrade has been developed in-house.
Looks impressive, doesn’t it?
You don’t know half of it.
I collected years’ worth of metrics on the performance of the provider as well as a set of other test results. Join me as I explain what SiteGade has to offer and what you need to see.

Mandatory — uptime, speed, support

Uptime, speed, and support are key features that define the quality of hosting services. I tested them all for this siteground review.

1. Uptime — 99.99%

It didn’t take long for SiteGround to stand out. Large investment in infrastructure paid off, so it can now provide more redundancy and stability than most providers.
SiteGround uses Google Cloud Infrastructure to establish a worldwide presence and can use some of the best hardware money.
It deploys Linux Fedora on top, with a proprietary tweaked kernel. Each client gets its own Linux container — highly secure and separate from other accounts on the same server. In other words, external issues are highly unlikely to affect any individual SiteGED hosting plans.
And I haven’t even mentioned the active security monitoring system that checks the server every 0.5 seconds. The provider also adds a web application firewall to thwart various hacking attempts. Whatever the automated system cannot fix, it is taken care of by SiteGround’s team of expert engineers.
The effect is more than obvious. The provider has maintained almost full uptime, at least since I started monitoring in 2018. Now that it uses Google’s servers, it is much more reliable.
The host provides a mandatory 99.9% availability guarantee. If SiteGround’s uptime decreases, you get a full month of free hosting. Each additional 1% below this brings an extra month for you.
That said, SiteGed is highly unlikely that anyone will have to take them up on this offer.
Average uptime 2018 – 99.99%
  2019 – 99.99%
  2020 – 99.99%
January – 100%
February – 99.99%
One of the most reliable infrastructure combined with an impeccable setup and server management.

2. Excellent speed

Quick Response Time – 0.38s (7th)
Quick Full Load Time – 0.94s (Fourth)
Number 2 Under load – 0.19s (second)
Speed is another important aspect that I investigated. Once again, SiteGade does not disappoint.
For this siteground review, I tested the time for the first byte (TTFB) and the time to fully load a page. TTFB is a good measure of server delay and plays a role in search engine ranking. The latter indicates how quickly servers actually deliver content.
Finally, I measured how servers perform when you hit them with multiple virtual users. Ideally, you want to attract a lot of traffic, and this test shows you how much you will be able to handle it.
TTFB falls at 0.320 seconds, which is reasonable. I ran the test from a remote location to test the worst case scenario. If your website visitors are near the data center of SiteGround, you may get faster responses.
Siteground web hosting content delivery time is nothing short of impressive. Since my site was transferred to the Google Cloud, the siteground records an average time of 0.65 seconds until fully loaded. It touts SiteGroud as one of the fastest providers, just a few milliseconds behind highly expensive ones like Kinsta.

Even better, when I hit my website with 300 virtual connections, the response time hardly decreased. SiteGround maintained a stable response period during the entire 10-minute trial, meaning that this ease Can handle large flow of traffic from.

Average Response Time 2018 – 0.47s
  2019 – 0.34s
  2020 – 0.41s
January – 0.30s
February – 0.28s
Fully Loaded Pages 2018 – 0.98s
 2019 – 0.94s
 2020 – 0.99s
January – 0.71s
February – 0.70s
Response Under Load 2018 – 0.19s
  2019 – 0.17s
  2020 – 0.23s
January – 0.14s
February – 0.12s
Siteground is one of the fastest and most reliable providers, capable of withstanding heavy traffic without interruption.

3. Stellar Support

Support quality has always been one of the main selling points of SiteGade and has been highly praised in SiteGED reviews.
This is no surprise – the provider gives serious training (3-6 months of this) to each representative. Agents are ready to go above and beyond for each customer. Very often, they will handle things like optimizing your website for you.
I have contacted SiteGrade Support dozens of times over the years and I have always had fantastic support. Agents have helped me with everything from handling backups and configuring security to changing .htaccess rules.
This is actually a service with white gloves.
One recent change I encountered while preparing this SiteGed review, which I was not too crazy about, is that it is more difficult to get in touch with support agents.
You cannot access sales chat if you do not create an account. But once you become a customer, things are not much easier.
Finding a contact form is not a piece of cake – you have to scroll through a bunch of options and some routes end up in a dead end. Then you have to jump through a few more hoops to get to SiteGrade live chat or phone options.
On the positive side, SiteGade has a great knowledge base. It explains everything from simple concepts to advanced operations such as converting databases from MySQL to Postgres. Needless to say, you get comprehensive guides on all proprietary devices, as well as a complete eBook on working with WordPress. This is one of the best-made tutorial repositories you can find.
Siteground continues the tradition of well-trained staff and excellent Knowledge Base articles, but the process of contacting the support team can be frustrating.

Benefits of Siteground

Is the provider as good as all SiteGround reviews say? Its many benefits speak in its favor. Let’s take a closer look at some of the big ones.

1. Google Cloud Infrastructure

SiteGround ran everything on its server for a full 15 years and it did a great job. However, the provider is watching its game and is currently transferring everything to the Google Cloud.
All of the new customers are hosted on Google Cloud Server and the bulk of the old customers have already migrated from SiteGed’s data centers.
If you are not familiar with Google Cloud, it is one of the big players in cloud computing and a strong competitor to giants like AWS. It lets you rent server resources on the same infrastructure used by Google.
There are many benefits from this.
Google Cloud runs a reliable infrastructure with many redundancy and almost impenetrable security. It would be difficult for any individual provider to achieve this level of stability without immersing millions in redundancy alone.
Second, servers are rapidly blazing and have access to Google’s private optic fiber network. Think of huge cables crossing the land and sea and connecting six continents at incredible delivery speeds. You can clearly see the impact on the new and improved load time of the Siteground package.
And if you like environmentally friendly services, Google Cloud offsets 100% of its energy use with green energy credits. In this way, you can reduce the carbon footprint of your website.
Overall, the infrastructure is incredibly powerful and reliable, leading to excellent performance for SiteGed users.

2. Optimized for WordPress and WooCommerce

Did you know that SiteGrade, along with Bluehost and Dreamhost, is one of the three hosts recommended by WordPress.org? SiteGround WordPress and WooCommerce hosting have some incredible advantages.
It all starts with server-side technologies. SiteGround runs the Apache web server with Nginx as a reverse-proxy, PHP and MySQL tweaks, Brotley compression and custom caching mechanisms operating at all three levels. The names may be a bit technical, but the load speed of SiteGade speaks for itself.
But the allowances do not end with pure speed.
Siteground WordPress hosting gets you started with your Quickstart Wizard plugin, which makes setup easier than ever. You can configure your WordPress login credentials, choose one of several themes, and choose some of the more common plugins to install (such as Page Builder or Contact Form Plugin.)
This reduces the setup process from a few hours to less than a minute.
If you already have a site elsewhere, SiteGround has also developed a migrator plugin. You can use it to access unlimited number of websites automatically. Can do to transfer. The whole process is very intuitive, although if you run custom techniques you may need to do some troubleshooting.
In most cases, you can protect yourself Trouble yourself and enable automatic updates across the board. But SiteGed provides easy skip and delay options, so you can also specify which plugins you want to update automatically.
Perhaps the most important benefit, at least according to my SiteGrade WordPress hosting review, is the SG Optimizer plugin. It is packed with speed optimization features. Strong caching, script minification and deferring, database optimization, heartbeat control and media compression are all on the table.
The plugin provides everything you will find in a premium solution like WP Rocket and more. And these are just the speed optimization features. You also get some website security options, such as implementing HTTPS.
Last but not least, the SiteGade team provides managed WordPress security. If you have any security concerns, you can turn to agents to take appropriate measures and harden your establishment.
This is more than enough to make SiteGade the best WordPress hosting I’ve seen on the web.

3. Master of Proprietary Tech

If you have read the review by now you may have come to know that SiteGade has a habit of developing its own technology.
Probably the most important innovation is replacing the traditional cPanel with SiteGround-owned “Site Tools”. The new control panel makes it easy to deploy website technologies, manage various aspects of the server stack, view resource statistics, manage backups and SSL encryption, and everything else needed to run a website.
Also, the intuitive UI caters to beginners, so you’ll have no problem getting around. It was a pleasant experience to test it for this siteground web hosting review.
Of course, there is more, including a Bespoke web application firewall, staging tool, and even a customized Linux kernel that is running all of this.
SiteGround does not mess up when it comes to R&D.

4. Highly safe

You cannot talk about high-end hosting without touching security.
The customization starts from the stack. SG always applies the latest updates for all supported technologies. It also applies general security improvements to the Linux kernel running with some custom modifications.
All shared siteground hosting plans are isolated in so-called hive containers — a technology similar to Cage FS on cloud Linux. Essentially, the system prevents accounts on the same server from influencing each other. If one of the other clients fails to optimize their website, hackers will not be able to take advantage of it to gain access to your part of the server.
SiteGround makes it easy to install SSL certificates. You can either apply your custom certificate or get Let’s Encrypt in a few clicks. Unlike most providers, SiteGED includes the option to receive the Let’s Encrypt wildcard, which protects both the main domain and all subdomains.
If you are using SiteGed for e-commerce then you will need this option.
SiteGround maintains a frequently updated web application firewall, preventing common issues such as brute-force attacks or SQL injection. DDoS is Cloudflare CDN for traffic handling.
You can pay an additional $ 1.65 / month for an SG site scanner — a malware detection system. This will inform you if an issue needs to be addressed or if your website is flagged by a general blacklist database.
To eliminate this, SiteGround adds spam protection, two-factor authentication and many other measures to ensure the integrity of your account.
Overall security is tight.

5. Fast stack and technologies

Certainly, SiteGade has a very impressive WP optimization, but it is not just a SiteGED WordPress review, so I will proceed with some other features.
SiteGED’s base servers have a robust setup that can deliver content faster than other sites and platforms.
For starters, its web server of choice is Apache, but the provider runs Nginx as a reverse-proxy for caching static content. In this way, you get the fastest possible delivery time for both static and dynamic elements of your website. And the host caches everything, providing a database cache with Siteground GoGeek and Gobig plans.
SG opts for brotli compression over standard gzip. The speed is the same, but Brottley puts less pressure on the bandwidth.
SiteGade has made further changes to its setup to work smoothly with PHP. This includes WAF fixes, various .htaccess rules, and more. “Ultrafast PHP”, as SG says, is going to achieve 25% -30% faster script execution.
Above all, Site Tools lets you easily connect to the Cloudflare CDN. It is one of the leading CDN services with points of presence worldwide. In addition to protecting you from DDoS efforts, it also lets you distribute static content to remote visitors – another point for SiteGed hosting.
They are some impressive measures, and the speed test results prove it. Once you have all the caching Once powering up, you can expect even better load times.

6. Great Cloud Plans

SiteGround web hosting is great, but, let’s face it, there is
A shared plan can only handle so much. And if you do your part right, you’ll quickly increase its abilities.
Enter Siteground’s cloud offer. Cloud plans are fully managed, WordPress friendly, and come with most of the benefits of shared hosting.
While standard hosting limits your resource usage, Siteground Cloud Hosting puts a full virtual server under your control. You can configure the settings either way, enjoying even more freedom than shared hosting.
We can get anywhere from 4 CPU cores, 8 GB RAM and 40 GB storage to 33 cores, 180 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. we are free to customize the resources in any way, as long as they fall within these limits.
Even better, a cloud system can autoscale for you. In this way, if your current configuration cannot handle all the traffic, you will not leave any visitors. You can set a custom limit on this option so that you are not surprised by your hosting bill.
SiteGround Dedicated Server can handle large scale apps easily.

7. Dev and agency friendly

Do you develop a website for yourself or your customers?
Siteground can help you.
There is no need to spend a ton of money for SiteGround Reseller Hosting. You can get the GoGeek plan for $ 14.99 / month and white-label the control panel.
Planning lets you add collaborators — great for agencies with multiple developers working on a project. With Siteground Staging and Git Integration, you can easily implement new features and push them into production.
If you need more power, you can do the same with SiteGround Cloud Hosting. In this way, you gain more control over your server and a lot of resources. Cloud plans also run on site tools, so you can avoid paying for a cPanel license.

8. Backup included

Don’t want to bother with backup? Siteground’s control panel takes daily backups of all your sites and saves them for up to 30 days. You can also create manual on-demand backups with all SiteGED pricing plans.
You can download backups using FTP for safekeeping. The restore takes only a few clicks — all you need to do is specify whether to roll back the entire site, specific files, or just the database.
The system can meet all your backup needs.

9. Good reputation

Some companies may claim as many satisfied customers as SiteGed.
Users have rated it 4.7 / 5 on TrustPilot and 9.7 / 10 on HostAdvice – this result is based on 10,000+ reviews. Many siteground reviews on Reddit communicate more about the same.
SiteGround works hard to maintain a happy customer base, and it shows.

Cons of siteground

There is something to improve all services, even sitegade. Here are some details to see before signing up.

1. Migration, domain and other services cost extra

One inconvenient aspect of SiteGround is that it charges extra for some technical tasks, even for simple tasks.
This is a way that non-WordPress migration is paid because SG uses a custom control panel. However, most cPanel hosts offer this option for free, so moving your website to SiteGround is not that cost effective. However, this does not apply to Siteground WordPress hosting as you can use the free migration plugin.
Another drawback is that if you want the technical team to do a manual backup for you, you will have to pay $ 19.95.
Siteground’s domain registration services are also unnecessarily expensive. A .com domain will cost you $ 15.95 / year with an additional $ 1 / month for WHOIS privacy.
You can get the same domain from registrars like NameCheap for $ 8.88 / year with free domain privacy.
I advise you to check if you already need SiteGade’s add-on services, as costs can increase.

2. Some Limitations on Shared Hosting

Siteground web hosting imposes certain limitations on CPU seconds and script execution available on a monthly basis. Nevertheless, they are reasonable and easy to track from the admin dashboard.
SiteGED also measures your hourly CPU access (the hourly cap is about 0.33% of monthly usage). Technically, you can go beyond the hourly limit, but if you do it again and again, SiteGed will suspend you, even if you are within the monthly processing limit.
The root of the issue is that SiteGed does not specify how much rebate you get for exceeding the hourly CPU allocation. And keep in mind that this is quite easy to do if you experience unexpected traffic – a simple load test got me 250% of my permitted usage on the largest hosting plan.
Some sitegade reviews complain that the host forced them to upgrade to certain traffic spikes.

Overall, limits are reasonable but spiked traffic Might inspire you to upgrade a little sooner.

3. Premium Pricing

For everything you get, the price is not less than per se.
SiteGround has amazing technologies, but they can be priceless. You can get a semi-affordable start for the first year, true, but later, the cost increases to $ 14.99 / month. And that is just the most basic plan.

It is safe to say that this is primarily a premium service. Siteground reviews like to compare this to high-end providers.Ers such as WP Engine and Kinsta.

This is not to say that the deals are not worth it. SiteGround throws in crazy customization and many proprietary features at no extra cost. And you get high quality technical support on top of that. This can be a serious revenue booster for all commercial websites or agencies.
If you know how to take advantage of the benefits of SiteGrade to deploy websites faster and achieve better performance, the provider is an incredible asset.
Just be aware that this is not the cheapest option on the market, especially when you arrive at the SiteGed Cloud Hosting tier.

Do we recommend a siteground?

SiteGround is a premium host with more premium features. Tight security configuration, dangerous server speed, efficient support, and more.
Not to mention all the good for WordPress users and developers. SiteGround introduced some Bespoke technologies that enable easy management and superb efficiency for beginners and professionals. This has been confirmed in thousands of positive siteground reviews available online.
Of course, if you are on a tight budget the prices may be slightly higher. But when you take into account the strong features that you get to take advantage of, the deals are completely fair.
Overall, a review of SiteGade in 2021 ranks it as one of the top providers, not just WordPress.
